Dear friends,
we announce here that the 3rd INQUA-IGCP 567 international workshop will take place in Morelia, Mexico in November 2012. After Baelo Claudia 2009 in Spain and Corinth 2011 we move for the first time across plate boundaries into the new world. On 19th November 1912 at 07:18 h took place the Acambay Earthquake (Mexico), close to Mexico DF. This is the main reason to celebrate the workshop in Mexico, the commemoration of 100 years since this historical event. The Opening ceremony of the workshop will be held at the City of Acambay with the support of the local authorities.

Postdoctoral Research Position/ Tsunami deposits/Earthquake Geology.
The Group on Active Tectonics (GAT) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Campus Morelia seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Research position. The candidate will pursue fundamental and applied research into tsunami deposits and paleoseismology with focus on the Mexican Subduction Zone. The candidate will be responsible for the development and execution of field and laboratory research, and to conduct studies on the geologic signature left by great earthquakes and their tsunamis. The fields of application include earthquake hazard, tsunami hazard and long-term earthquake record of this active margin.
A strong background in earthquake geology, sedimentology, quaternary dating, microfossils analytical techniques, and coastal geomorphology is preferable, as is considerable field and laboratory experience. Requirements include a recent Ph.D. in earthquake geology, earth-planetary sciences or related fields. Some knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
Posdoctoral researcher will work in a team lead by Dr. Teresa Ramírez.
This is an open context, commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on National Autonomous University of Mexico requirements:
1. Applicants must be under 36 years old
2. A recent PhD, no more than 3 years since graduation
3. At least one published paper in an SCI journal
The position is available immediately for a one-year term, renewable for a second year based on performance.
